a guide to using Mendeley, a free reference manager and academic social network that can help you organize your research, collaborate with others online, and discover the latest research.

Adding Citations

There are several ways to add references to a word processor document using Mendeley Word and Open Office plug-ins.

  1. Add-Ins > Insert Citation > Find Citations
  2. Add-Ins > Insert Citation > Go to Mendeley > In Mendeley, hightlight a reference. In Word, go to Add-Ins > Insert Selected Citation.
  3. Copy a citation in Mendeley.  Paste it into Word document.
  4. Drag and drop.

Reformat bibliographies with different styles.  In Word, Go to References > Mendeley Cite-O-Matic > Insert Bibliography. Click on the dropdown menu next to Style and select appropriate Output Style.

Can't find your Output Style?

  • Select Get More Styles from the Style dropdown menu. Select and install new styles. A complete list of the styles supported by Mendeley is available here.
