Zika Virus Declared Global Health Emergency by WHO
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Zika virus and its suspected link to birth defects an international public emergency. At a news conference in Geneva, Dr. Margaret Chan, director general of the WHO, said that "international response is needed to minimize the threat in infected countries and reduce risk of international spread." The "emergency" designation can trigger action and funding from government and nonprofit agencies around the world.

Check out the 2015 edition of New York City Community Health Profiles . Focusing on health, economic, and environmental information for each of NYC’s 59 Community Districts, Profiles are a great resource for understanding the issue that affect the health of a community.

If you’d like to see how your neighborhood has fared over time, the Profiles for 2000, 2003, and 2006 are still available.
The 2015 New York City Community Health Profiles Atlas provides detailed information about the Profiles. The data used in the Profiles is available for download in Excel format.

The Student National Medical Association Einstein Chapter and the Einstein Minority Scientist Association recognize notable minority physicians and scientists in an exhibit on display in the Library exhibit cases. The exhibit will be on display for the month of February, 2016. The exhibit cases are located in the library lobby.
The display cases in the lobby of the D. Samuel Gottesman Library are available to all members of the Einstein community for mounting exhibits related to medicine or science.
