The Library is preparing an exhibit recognizing Einstein faculty who have authored, edited or contributed to books or e-books published during the past two years. The exhibit will be on display in the Library lobby on the first floor of the Forchheimer Building during the months of March and April. This year's exhibit will include books published between March 2015 and March 2017. Authors should send a copy of their printed book or information about their e-book and a recent photograph of themselves, either printed or electronic. Books and photos will be returned when the exhibit is over. Please include your name, title, department and phone number with the submission.

Members of the Einstein community can reserve the exhibit cases in the Library’s lobby for exhibits focusing on biomedical, health-related, student or institutional concerns in either historical or contemporary perspectives. The purpose of the exhibit program is to inform, educate and engage. Einstein-sponsored student groups are especially encouraged to set up exhibits of interest to the student body.

The Library mounts three annual exhibits: Einstein Authors & Editors, Einstein Editors: Journals & Annuals, and Einstein Commencement.  Anyone else wishing to mount an exhibit must fill out an official request form specifying dates and brief description of the content of the proposed exhibit to receive Library approval. Every effort will be made to accommodate requested dates, but exhibits planned by Library staff will have precedence over others.

All Einstein students, postdocs, faculty and staff can apply for a New York Public Library (NYPL) card, which will give you access to:

NYPL staff will be in the Forchheimer Lobby on March 7 during your lunch hour to register you for a new library card. D. Samuel Gottesman Library staff will also be on hand to tell you about exciting new resources and programs here at Einstein!

The National Information Center on Health Services Research and Health Care Technology (NICHSR) recently released NICHSR ONESearch. This consolidated search site allows researchers to search two unique databases and two specialized web portals with one simple search:

• Health Services Research Projects in Progress (HSRProj) —  information about ongoing health services research and public health projects
• Health Services and Sciences Research Resources (HSRR) — health services research and public health research relevant data sets, instruments and software
• Health Services Research Information Central (HSRIC) — links to high-quality news, data/tools/methods and grey literature selected to meet the needs of the health services research community
• Partners in Information Access for the Public Health Workforce (PHPartners) — access to selected public health resources.

Our iPads are 16GB, wireless-ready and preloaded with resources licensed by the Library and resources from the NLM and the CDC. Google Drive is also installed for easier access to all your documents in the cloud. Personal software can be downloaded onto the iPads. All downloaded programs and apps will be erased from the iPad when returned. You can also print from our iPads using web print. Check one out today! See our iPad guide for more information.

You can print from your laptop, tablet or smartphone to printers in the Library using web-based printing. Instructions on setting up web-based printing can be found in our Print Scan Photocopy guide.

1. Register for web based printing here.
2. After you receive a confirmation email, go here to upload the file you wish to print. If you wish to print a webpage, copy and paste the full url into the box.
3. Select B&W for black and white copies or color for color copies. Then click Submit.
4. Log on to a print release station using your print account. Single-sided copies only.

The Book Club’s theme for 2017 is global health. Join us on March 8 (International Women’s Day!) at Noon when we will discuss Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. The New York Times review said, “This wonderful book combines a denunciation of horrible abuses with clear-eyed hope and some compelling practical strategies.”

If you’d like to get started on the following book, pick up a copy of “The Poisonwood Bible,” by Barbara Kingsolver. We’ll be discussing it on May 10 at Noon.

MedlinePlus, the National Library of Medicine’s consumer health portal, now has a topic page for Opioid Abuse and Addiction.  As with the other MedlinePlus topics, which now number one thousand, this page covers a wealth of information, including patient handouts, latest news, research, statistics and treatments.
